About Us

Our Programming

For over 30 years Clarence and Audrey Sayler have been hosting this popular program featuring a variety of old time waltzes, polkas and a few two-steps. While the artists they play are from across the Unites States, many are local and area musicians from North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and our neighbors to the north of us in Canada.

The regular listeners have heard family stories as their two sons, Austin and Colton were born and raised on the polka show. The youngest one was even named by a listener in a “Name-the-Baby” contest! Wherever they go they find folks who have listened for many years tell them they feel they already know them and will visit as if they are family.

Sayler’s Polka Place is aired on KSJB Radio out of Jamestown, ND. Listen live on-line at KSJBAM.com, or if you are in the listening area you can tune your AM radio to 600kHz every Sunday afternoon from 2:00pm – 4:00pm Central time.

The History of Our Show

In the late 80’s Clarence and Audrey started Sayler’s Polka Place on a small radio station in the Bismarck-Mandan area. They ran the show for a couple years before the station changed formats and polka music no longer fit the station. About a year later they were asked to do their show on KSJB radio in Jamestown, ND and have been there ever since.

THE TONY WEBER BAND PHOTOS AND FACTS

Interesting Facts of the Tony Weber Band (by Roni Weber)
TONY PLAYED AT HOME AT THE AGE OF 6 FOR NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE PARTIES. HIS FIRST PAYCHECK WAS 2 PENNIES FROM AN UNCLE AFTER PERFORMING FOR HIM. HE STARTED PLAYING PUBLICLY WITH 2 ADDITIONAL MEMBERS AT THE AGE OF 17 WHEN HIS MOM BOUGHT HIM A BRAND NEW ACCORDIAN.

AFTER BEING DRAFTED IN THE ARMY IN 1952, AND STATIONED IN BAD NAUHEIM GERMANY, TONY PLAYED MOST WEEKENDS WITH A GERMAN CIVILIAN BAND OFF BASE. SHORTLY BEFORE TONY’S DISCHARGE FROM THE ARMY, HE RECEIVED A PHONE CALL REQUESTING TONY TO GO ON “TDY”(TOUR OF DUTY) WITH THE  TRAVELING  UNITED STATES ARMY TOURING BAND CROSS COUNTRY AS THEIR ACCORDIAN PLAYER. TONY HAD ONLY A FEW WEEKS LEFT AND WOULD HAVE HAD TO RE-ENLIST FOR ANOTHER 2 YEAR TERM SO HE DECLINED THE STAY.

ON HIS RETURN TONY PLAYED WITH THE JOHNNY HAIDER BAND FOR 6 MONTHS, THEN STARTED HIS OWN BAND  AGAIN. HIS BAND COVERED NORTH DAKOTA, SOUTH DAKOTA, MONTANA, WYOMING, AND PORTLAND OREGON. IN THE YEAR OF JULY 1960 TONY AND HIS BAND WON THE TRI-STATE POLKA KING AWARD OF ND. SD AND MT. POLKA  COMPETITORS.

TONY AND HIS BAND WERE THE FIRST TO PLAY POLKA FESTS IN THE STATE, AND THE FIRST TO PLAY POLKA MASSES IN THE STATE OF ND.

BAND MEMBERS FEATURED ON THE CD OF THE MONTH ARE

    HENRY WEBER –DRUMS (BROTHER)
GENE BRAUN-PIANO (BROTHER IN LAW)DON KUBAS-TRUMPET AND BASS GUITAR (NEPHEW IN LAW).

AFTER 68 YEARS OF MANY MANY DANCES AND OCCASIONS, 1943 TO 2011, TONY RETIRED.

TONY PASSED AWAY NOV. 2017 OF CANCER AT THE AGE OF 91.
